It is important to begin by stating that functional yoga is not a style of yoga. It is an approach that can be applied to any style of asana, helping to ensure that yoga is inclusive and accessible to all people, regardless of age, size or athletic abilities.
The functional approach understands that skeletal variation plays a significant role in the how to practice safe and effective yoga asana. With an in-depth knowledge of anatomy and individual biomechanics, paired with a distinct teaching methodology, we facilitate students in finding the appropriate asana shape that works for their body that delivers the therapeutic benefits of the pose.
When we come to realise that there are no two people with the same shape bones or natural range of motion, we will will understand that there can not possibly be one universal aesthetical alignment rule that works for every body. This is at the heart of the functional approach.
MyoYin is a popular and highly effective dual modality that blends myofascial release ball techniques with the slow, passive yin yoga holds. Each practice is individually designed to improve mobility, enhance the integrity of the tissues, harmonise Qi flow and hone our interoceptive skills. When we combine these practices, the benefits are amplified.
Yin Yoga is a slow, passive practice that offers mainly floor-based postures held on average between 3-5 minutes. The practice is designed to improve mobility, harmonise Qi flow and provide a meditative space that invites us to explore the deeper layers of our internal landscape. This subtle, unassuming practice offers so much more than meet the eye, delivering profound benefits to the body, heart and mind.
A practice infused with Taoist philosophy that blends a strong, mindfully-based yang practice, with the softer notes of yin yoga. The energy curves of the class can vary, but the inquiry remains the same. Designed to balance the body and cultivate a meditative mind.

When it comes to our trainings, there are a few suggested guidelines to ensure you get the most out of each module.
Modules 1-3 lay the foundation for practice and teaching, so are open to all levels.
Modules 4-6 are open to all, but a minimum of 1 year’s experience in yin yoga would be suggested. If you are comfortable to practice yin yoga with less technical guidance, you are welcome to attend.
Yes, all individual modules are Yoga Alliance accredited CETs, which means that the hours from each module can be added as continuing education (CE) hours via the Yoga Alliance website. Please search for YACEP ‘Nicky Hadjithoma’ to submit your certificate for approval.
It is important to note, that whilst all our modules add up to a 300hr Yintelligence certificate that we do not offer a Yoga Alliance 300hr accreditation to add to your 200RYT status to achieve your 500RYT. This is because the Yoga Alliance criteria for a 300hr certification strictly outlines that the curriculum must be based on classic yoga practices and can not cover specialised disciplines or modalities such as Chinese Medicine, meridians, acupressure, myofascial release or trauma-informed practices, for example.
We believe that studying material that resonates with you, deepens your practice and enhances your teaching skills is more important that adapting a program to gain a certification. We also understand that yoga studios around the world are less and less interested in Yoga Alliance accreditations (beyond the minimum requirement of a 200hr certification) and more interested in teachers dedicated to ongoing study, who can offer complimentary modalities and diversity to their students.

Modules 1 and 2 can be taken as stand alone trainings and in any order.
We do suggest students newer to the yin yoga practice and those looking to formally teach yin yoga begin with module 1, as this module lays the most detailed functional foundation for a safe and effective practice.
Module 3 – a foundational understanding of skeletal variation and a functional approach to yoga is recommended before taking this module, so that the content of this module is absorbed with greater ease. As such, it is suggested to complete module 1 prior to taking module 3. Students who have attended a functional training with another recognized trainer, are also eligible to join.
Modules 4-6 – these modules will focus on the subtle inner practices, not the study of the physical poses, so it is important that attendees are comfortable to practice yin yoga with less technical guidance. Module 1 would be the most suitable prerequisite for this training, however those with a minimum of 1 year of regular yin yoga practice will also be eligible to join these specialised modules.
Mentorship and assisting opportunities are open to yoga teachers who have taken a minimum of three modules (including module 1), with at least one of those trainings having been attended in-person. Students must show good studentship, to be considered.
Please know that assisting opportunities are only available on modules that have already been taken, as a student.
To enquire about assisting and potential mentorship opportunities, please email info@yintelligence.com
Yes. We offer a limited number of scholarships for all our self-hosted online trainings. For each live Zoom training, we will open an application process where students are invited to apply. Please note that we do receive a high number of applicants for each training and that priority is given to full-time teachers requiring financial support, those from marginalized communities and/or those working with high-need special groups.
We understand that not all teachers will fall into this priority category, so to do what we can to still make all our trainings as accessible as possible, we do offer payment plans with zero interest rate and no additional fees.
Please note that we are unable to offer scholarships for our events hosted at a studio, however we do work with the studios to ensure that payment plans are also made available.
Please feel free to email info@yintelligence.com to enquire how we can support you in signing up to our trainings.
In theory, there is no formal certification to teach yin yoga. Yin yoga founder, Paul Grilley believes that a student is ready to teach when they have a solid understanding of the theory and insight from their own practice to share.
Saying that, completing a comprehensive functional yin yoga training will naturally provide the knowledge, skills and confidence to begin teaching yin yoga to the public.
It is important to note that to teach at an established yoga studio, the minimum requirement globally is a 200hr Yoga Alliance accredited foundational teacher training. If you already have your RYT200 and then go on to complete either our module 1 or module 2 training, then you will certainly have the necessary credentials to begin formally teach yin yoga at any studio around the world.
