60hr Functional Yoga Teacher Training (III)

Functional Hatha/Vinyasa & Shoulder Anatomy

Body Yintelligence - Module 3

About This Training

This unique Yoga Alliance accredited training is designed for practitioners and teachers interested in studying the biomechanics of asana and how to apply the revolutionary functional yoga principles, to their Hatha/ Vinyasa practice.

This specialised programme is designed to improve your anatomical knowledge and refine your ability to analyse human variation. Graduates will leave with the necessary skills to practice and teach individualised asana, helping to make yoga more relevant, inclusive and accessible to all people, across all styles of Hatha yoga, including Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Hot, or any other style.

In a series of focused asana labs, we will carefully deconstruct and reconstruct 30+ traditional Hatha poses, including key standing poses, backbends, arm balances and inversions - exploring how skeletal variations in the shoulder, spine, pelvis and extremities will affect the appropriate ‘alignment’ for each student. We will critically evaluate standard alignment cues, analyse their effectiveness across a broad range of student bodies, before learning how to communicate functional cues that will ensure students are guided safely and effectively into each posture.

Our goal is to learn how to skilfully teach traditional Hatha/ Vinyasa, based on function over aesthetics - guiding students to self-inquire, cultivate body intelligence and empower them to discern for themselves the appropriate way to practice yoga - for their unique body - that will lead to an effective, safe, sustainable and long-term yoga practice.

The functional anatomy component of this module will focus on the shoulder and upper extremities. Anatomy labs will be set up to allow students to carry out range of motion tests, so as to analyse anatomical variations - learning to accurately apply observations and insights, into pose modifications.

The training will be include:

  • Functional Yoga Theory & Practice

  • Yang Posture Clinics - Detailed Analysis of 30 Key Traditional Hatha Poses (Standing Poses, Backbends, Arm Balances and Inversions)

  • How to Teach Functional Hatha/ Vinyasa

  • Applied Yoga Anatomy (Shoulder & Upper Extremities)

Student Testimonial

“The course was in depth, carefully executed and inclusive to all students who attended. Nicky shares her knowledge so passionately and her presence through out the course was flawless. I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to ensure their own teaching/classes more functional and accessible, to take any one of Nicky’s courses. I already feel a huge shift in my confidence when guiding students to explore their own bodies more.”
